IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Dear Valued Customers and Community,

We are Happy to Announce the reopening at long last of our resumption of in car training as of June 23rd 2020.

We hope this communique finds you and your loved ones well during these challenging times. Many changes have transpired since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and we would like to update you on our company’s operations.

All DMV offices have reopened by appointment only in a limited capacity (e.g. administering written tests) For more details, please visit https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv.

All DMV road tests with cancelled appointments are to start in early August. Pre existing appointments will be rescheduled by DMV. All new appointments will be scheduled but the likely hood is they will go into effect October or later. This of course is all pending Covid-19 situation.

At Dollar Driving School, the health and safety of our clients and community extend beyond just the road. As we look to the future, we are preparing to implement measures to safeguard both students and instructors as much as possible during driving lessons.

We have official state guidelines, but have proactively developed our own protective policies. Although California and Los Angeles have been relatively fortunate in suffering fewer cases and deaths than most other populous states and cities in the country so far, we must still make every effort to minimize the spread of contagion and overall risk of infection.

The new safety guidelines we plan to implement are as follows:

1. Cars

Instructors will wipe down vehicle interiors with disinfectant prior to each lesson in the presence of the client. This includes the steering wheel, dashboard, hand brake, seat belt buckle, indicator levers, gearshift and all common contact points.

If any person other than an instructor or student (e.g. DMV examiner or mechanic) enters a vehicle, it must be cleaned and disinfected before returning to service.

No more than one student will be permitted in the car at any time.

During lessons, windows will be kept down to improve air circulation (weather permitting).

Cars will carry disinfectant wipes, a disposable bag for wipes, and tissues.

2. Instructors

Instructors will take their temperature daily and record it on an online company spreadsheet, regularly reviewed by administration.

Any instructor with a fever will immediately cancel lessons and contact a medical provider for further clinical management. If the instructor is found to be COVID-19 positive, they will return to service only when cleared by a medical provider.

Instructors will wear a mask and gloves at all times during the lesson.

There will be no physical contact between instructors and students or their parents (e.g. shaking hands). An instructor may only come into physical contact with a student in the event of an emergency, in order to avoid an impending collision.

3. Students

Students or their parents (if students are minors) will be expected to cancel a driving lesson if they are exhibiting any signs of illness (i.e. fever, cough, or shortness of breath) within 24 hours of a lesson, without financial penalty.

Instructors will call the evening prior to every lesson to screen students for relevant symptoms and history (i.e. fever, cough, shortness of breath, recent travel or known exposure to a COVID-positive individual).

Students returning from a vacation or having had known exposure to COVID-19 positive individuals will have to wait at least two weeks and be asymptomatic before (re)starting lessons.

Students will be required to wear a face mask at all times during the lesson. If students cannot procure a mask, the school will supply one (depending on availability of supplies).

An instructor will take a student’s temperature prior to lessons to evaluate for the presence of a fever.

All permits or licenses must be carried in a transparent, protective envelope, so that they can be viewed and wiped down after handling. Students should carry their own pen with them to avoid sharing of items.

All payments should be made by credit card, preferably. If not possible, then cash or check should be submitted in an open envelope.

All clients will be required to sign our Covid-19 waiver.

The guidelines are subject to change depending on constantly evolving information. These proposed measures will be kept in effect for the foreseeable future, until public health officials have determined the current state of affairs has clearly improved, thus requiring less restrictive measures. We will continue to closely monitor city, state, and federal updates regarding phased re-opening. The health and safety of our clients and employees is of the utmost importance, and we will do our due diligence to ensure as safe an environment as possible.

Sincerely,

Dear clients and past patrons,

First of all we at Dollar driving school would like to wish everyone a safe and healthy and prosperous 2016.

The reason we are reaching out to our past patrons and clients is to remind everyone that this is an El Niño year. What this means is that our normal driving habits need to be flexible and modified with the rainy season ahead. Clearly in a drought ridden state we find ourselves needing much rain ahead, this also means that we have to be extra cautious. Extra cautious are two words possibly even a thought you will keep present in your mind. I would like to give you some pointers that you should clearly take into consideration in the rainy season.

1. Please keep an increased following distance, more than you would normally exercise. In the rain a 6 to 8 second following distance can make all the difference. For those of you who forget how to calculate the following distance take a fixed point in front of you, when a car passes that point start counting seconds until you reach that point. 70% of all car collisions are rear end collisions a good safe cushion will keep you most likely out of trouble and danger.

2. Please consider slowing down in rainy weather and wet surfaces. It really does not matter what other people think or do what does matter is getting to your destination safely. Cars generally begin to hydroplane somewhere between 35 to 45 mph. There are numerous variables due to condition of tires and design of vehicles, nevertheless upwards of 45 mph on wet surfaces is clearly tricky in an emergency situation. Remember the only rush that exists is between our ears it is better to lose a second in our lives then lose our lives in a second.

3. Please remember when you can exercise the option of going out on the road in severe weather conditions or staying where you are, often a smart choice is stay where you are.

4. Please remember when driving on wet roads and you find yourself traversing large bodies of water or large pools of water to slow down significantly as traction between your wheels may be different and what lies below the surface of the water is not visible. You may think you are going through two or three inches of water and hit a severe pothole that could damage your car that you could not see.

5. Please remember when driving on winding roads that have angled surfaces where streams of water run from one side of the road to the other to slow down when traversing those areas as they can cause loss of traction resulting in out of control skidding in curves.

6. Make sure that your windshield wipers work and you have wipers that are new or in good condition to clear away rain. Make sure that your brakes are functioning properly. Make sure that your tires are in good condition with plenty of tread, and tire pressure is correct. This all sounds and should be elementary, but sometimes as humans are, they forget to check these simple lifesaving measures.

I hope these pointers are of assistance to you and your families, friends and love ones. Please remember that Dollar Driving School made every effort to teach you how to drive safely and intelligently we hope you continue in that manner.

Finally we look forward to serving you and your families and friends in the future. Wishing you safe and happy travels.

1. The Department of Motor Vehicles has set a MINIMUM REQUIREMENT of six hours of professional training and 50 hours 10 of which to be administered in the dark with Parent, Guardian, licensed instructor or any driver 25 years or older with a clean valid California driving license.
2. The Federal Government has recognized a need for at LEAST 10 hours of Professional training.

3. We at Dollar Driving School after 35 years of successfully training the public professionally have known for many years that the State minimum requirement is just that, minimum. We would like you to consider a MINIMUM OF 12-18 hours of professional training. At least the first six before you get involved with a parent and a MINIMUM of 80-120 hours of parental training interspersed with supplemental hours with your instructor before going for a license. In our vast experience we have found that the State minimum requirement is just not adequate and by doing considerably more training we reduce the chances of a collision / accident and injury to you the driver and the general public.
The need to recognize this is long overdue and it will hopefully save many more lives when implemented.
